21st July 2019

It was Grand Final Day for the Stags' Under 13 and Under 16 Gold teams on Saturday at London Broncos home ground at Ealing.

The Under 13's (pictured above) confirmed their season-long unbeaten superiority by claiming the London & South East Championship with an emphatic 42-18 victory over Rutlish Raiders. Try scorers for Hemel were Mason Cameron-Hart 3, Adam Yule 2, Jack Suddick 1, Teddy Payne 1, Sol Shand 1, with conversions by Will Baildon 4, and Oscar de Jong 1. Mason Cameron-Hart was Player of the Match.

The Under 16 Gold team (all the players are actually U15) went in as underdogs against the unbeaten Invicta Panthers U16 and despite the Panthers taking an early 4-0 lead it was the young Stags who impressed the big crowd throughout the match. Midway through the second half the Stags were leading 10-8 and in the ascendancy as they stormed the Panthers line - twice being held up over the line - and on another occasion the perfect chip over the top was denied a try under the posts by a cruel bounce of the ball.

In a match dominated by fantastic defences by both teams it was the Panthers who were able to regain the lead 12-10 and in the dying minutes crossed adjacent to the posts for an 18-10 victory.

The Stags wrapped up their final regular Southern Conference League season with a narrow 22-20 win at Brixton Bulls. The win left Hemel in 5th place in the table and to rue how just one win in a couple of matches they should have won has cost them a place in the Top Four play-offs. Instead, the Stags will contest the Plate competition involving matches against North Herts Crusaders, Ipswich Rhinos, South London Silverbacks and Brixton Bulls to determine the finalists who will meet at the Military Stadium, Aldershot on 21 September.

Well done to all of the Stags teams on the weekend.
