Toronto Wolfpack maul Oxford in historic home opener

Toronto Wolfpack drew an encouraging crowd of 6,281 crowd to the Lamport Stadium for their historic home opener as they maintained their 100 per cent record in Kingstone Press League 1 with a 62-12 win over Oxford.

However, the Canadian newcomers had one player sent off and three others sin-binned after losing their discipline and finished the ill-tempered match with just 10 men against the Blues, who had their captain Callum Windley sent off.

Prop Jake Emmitt was shown a red card by referee Brandon Robinson for throwing a series of punches after being sin-binned, while Liam Kay, Blake Wallace and Sean Penkywicz were all handed yellow cards.

Toronto captain Craig Hall continued his freescoring form with one of his side's 12 tries and seven goals to take his points tally in just six games to 140 while Andrew Dixon, Richard Whiting and Jonny Pownall, who was making his 100th career appearance, all touched down twice.

The home side's other tries came from Wallace, Ryan Brierley Greg Worthington and Ryan Burroughs.

Oxford were far from disgraced, however, and hooker Casey Canterbury twice breached the Wolfpack line for tries, with Harvey Burnett kicking two conversions.
