Hemel Stags are delighted to announce the appointment of Grant Hathaway as full time Community Development Manager.
Grant is a very exciting addition having played for the club as a junior before graduating to the Academy and National League 3 senior team. As a senior Stags player he gained rugby league international honours making his debut for the Wales Dragonhearts when they defeated Ireland 52-10 in 2002. Since then he has gained considerable experience working with rugby clubs such as Saracens and Wasps.
The community department is also bolstered by the appointment of two coaches who will deliver rugby in primary and secondary schools, as well coaching the junior teams:
Harrison Brough was a member of the 2016 Hemel Stags League 1 squad after signing from London Broncos. He will work full time with Grant and has already been commended for his professional attitude and enthusiasm.
Luke Ashton is another local success story. Whilst completing his studies at West Herts College, he will work part time. Luke has played for Hemel Stags since he was 11 years old and won many local and regional school competitions in his time at Kings Langley.
Previous Manager, Mike Stewart, is staying in the area to teach PE at Astley Cooper School. Meaning the club has a strong link with our most local secondary school. Mike will also continue his involvement with the club one day a week to assist with the administration of the Sky Try programme and the coaching of junior and adult community teams.
Chairman Bob Brown commented that “the growth of our community department is an indication of how the Stags are committed to being a vibrant part of the Dacorum sporting landscape”.
