The Stags completed their initial season in the Southern Conference League with a convincing 26-14 Plate Final victory over rivals Eastern Rhinos at the Aldershot Miltary Stadium on Saturday.

The Rhinos had won the two League matches between the two  sides and were pre-match favourites to make it a treble but the new coaching team of Liam O'Callaghan and B J Swindells on the back of a three match winning streak leading up to the Final had other ideas.

An early B J Swindells converted try got Hemel off to a great start but the Rhinos - with their classy backline always looking dangerous - made Hemel fight all the way to retain their lead. Hemel's ruthless defence was the perfect foil for Rhinos atttaking efforts. By half time the Rhinos had levelled the scores at 14-14 and going into the final quarter the two sides were still locked together with the talk in the grandstand being of the likelihood of the need for a Golden Point.

In the end it was left to two Hemel teenagers - fullback Lewis Swindells and  stand off Joe Hunter - to score converted tries to clinch victory with Hunter's overall effort gaining him the Man of the Match award.

HEMEL TEAM: Lewis Swindells, Ashley Gingells, Tate Bartlett, Matt Donovan, Callum Dockerill, Joe Hunter, Jack Harbidge, Mark Manito, Gareth Swindells, Aaron Higgs, B J Swindells, Sam Griffiths, George Edwards, SUBS (all used) Yousef Richards, Will O'Brien, Gordon Burnett, Oli Toms; 18TH MAN Sam Mullins; 19TH MAN Toby Cozens
